Palm-leaf manuscripts, temple inscriptions and old land records all keep their accounts in Tamil numerals, with separate signs for ten, hundred and thousand, a family of fine fractions such as muntiri, kaani, maa and araikkaal, and measures such as kuzhi, veli, palam and padi.
